Nitrous (laughing gas)

For a minimal degree of sedation, nitrous oxide gas can be used.  Nitrous oxide, also known as laughing gas, is combined with oxygen to lightly sedate and relax you during dental care.  You may experience a euphoric feeling, tingling in your fingers and toes, or an altered perception of time.  This can be very effective for some people, especially children, while a stronger sedative is needed for others.

One advantage of nitrous oxide sedation is that the effects start very quickly, and also go away very quickly once the procedure is terminated.  Because of this, you do not need an escort to bring you to your appointment and take you home once your appointment is over.
